Nautnes Fiskevær is a modern fisherman's center by the sea in Øygarden, just a short hour by car from Bergen. Here you can experience summer and sun, rain, storm and the most amazing sunsets. The old trading place Nautnes has a traditional history related to fishing, trade and shipping. The area around Nautnes is an eldorado for deep sea fishing and diving, and all the fine canals between the fjord and the sea make it a paradise for kayakers. The North Sea is the closest neighbor, so after just a few minutes by boat you can throw the line into the ocean.

Hellesøy is an island by the Hjeltefjord
in the far north of Øygarden municipality in Western Norway.
It is connected to the rest of Øygarden by a bridge on county road 229.
From Hellesøy there is a local scheduled boat out to the islands
Lyngøy, Hernar, Sanden, Sulo and Nordøy. The highest point on Hellesøy is Ørneberget, 35 masl.
Hellesøy has developed from being a fishing village to becoming a place that focuses on tourism, among other things by arranging Hellesøy and Øygarden deep sea fishing festival.
There is a hostel here and a number of cabins, fisherman's cabins and apartments for rent.
Hellesøy has a shop and restaurant Hellesøy Pub and Restaurant. The old "nothengja", popularly called "Hengjo", by the quay on Hellesøy has become part of Museum Vest, and the rich bird life means that many ornithologically interested people come here to observe birds.

Fishing villages are great places to explore. I love watching the boats come and go, the fishermen preparing their boats for a fishing trip. Lots of stories and its a great experience. Your photos show the beauty of this area perfectly. I would love to visit this place someday. Thanks for sharing, Anita and have a lovely evening.

I have no doubt that I would really enjoy a visit to this place. Birds would be my principal focus, of course, but everything about the town and the surrounding area would be of interest. I really must try to get a map of Norway so that I can place all these regions in context. The one in my old atlas is small and Google maps are not to my liking. There is nothing quite like poring over an old paper map and finding what you are looking for! You should see how some of my maps are marked up - before and after visiting a country!

SvarSlettI am from Newfoundland where the in-shore fishery disappeared in the early 1990s. It was devastating for the rural communities along the coast of the province. They have never recovered. Tourism has become a poor substitute. This year, due to the pandemic, even tourism is gone.

Sure, I like fishing, but I only fish with a worm hook and a snare and from the beach.
