The cross church is a brick cross church that was built in the 12th century in Vågsbunnen 

6th The name does not come from the church's architecture, but that it was dedicated to the holy cross. It was considered one of the few churches in Norway that was in possession of a relic of the true cross. It is mentioned for the first time in Sverre's saga in connection with events in the year 1181,

Every year, the poor, drug addicts and everyone who has nowhere to go get together at Christmas. Here they can eat good Christmas food and sleep

Holy Cross Church, Bergen

Vetrlidsallmenningen is a wide street (public street) in Bergen, 

Which runs from Bryggesporen to Skansen. 

Vetrlidsallmenningen is part of Bergen's historic center from the Middle Ages

The funicular railway  Fløybanen is a funicular railway for passenger traffic 

between the center of Bergen and the Fløyen viewpoint located at 320 m above sea level. 

The Fløibanen and Fløyen are an iconic feature of Bergen and 

at the same time one of Norway's most visited and largest tourist attractions, 

which in 2015 had a record of 1,575,503 boardings.

 Construction work began in 1914 and the line began regular passenger traffic on 15 January 1918. 

The length is 850 metres, and the height difference is 300 metres. 

The one-way trip usually takes five to eight minutes with one of the two modern panoramic

 carriages Rødhette and Blåmann, each of which holds approx. 100 passengers.

I strongly recommend that you take this tour if you are going to Bergen. 

It is very popular and I understand very well why. 

When you reach the top, the view takes your breath away.

 It is a completely unique and wonderful experience.

Even though you have a fear of heights, it is still very nice. 

You don't have to go all the way to the edge to see the view.

King Oscar's street

The street is named after Oscar I, who was king of Norway and Sweden from 1844 to 1859.

The monastery

The oldest parts of the building date from King Øystein's time, when Munkeliv monastery was built in the period 1107-10, which makes it one of the country's oldest monasteries. King Øystein implemented this while his brother Sigurd Jorsalfare was on a pilgrimage to the Holy Land. Michael's Church belonged to the monastery, a stave church located approximately where the pedestrian crossing at the monastery is now. Very many churches in this period were named after the archangel Michael, and his sanctuaries were often placed on heights. The Nordnesryggen was well suited here. The monastery was named St. Mikaelsklosteret, and King Øystein gave the monks estates in the areas of Nordnes and Sydnes that had belonged to the royal estate. A letter of protection from King Magnus Lagabøte in 1264 affirms the monastery's right to "Nordnes and Sydnes with berths for ships and weighing instruments and other adjacent glories

Monk life began as a Benedictine monastery with monks who in 1426 took over Birgitta of Vadstena's order Monk life. It was then reregulated into a double convent with both nuns and monks, according to the Birgittine rules. The supreme leader of the monastery was the abbess, who was elected by both conventions, but it was subject to the Bergen bishopric. Like all double convents, Munkeliv got a bad reputation in the future - unmarried men and women lived here under the same roof.

Monk life was perhaps Norway's richest monastery in the Middle Ages. In 1427 there were no fewer than 330 farms in the West Country, Shetland and the Orkney Islands, but in 1462 Pope Pius II decided that Monkeliv should not have more than 85 monks and nuns, and new sources of income had to be looked for. Monk life built up plots of land, and until 1507 the monastery also received the income from the Nonneseter estate. Under King Christian II, Munkeliv lost the protection of the royal house, and it was closed down in 1531 because the location had acquired military significance.

By royal letter of 17 March 1562, Erik Rosenkrantz received permission to reuse the remains of masonry from the monastery for his private residence, Murhvelvingen. The area where Munkeliv had been located was gradually built up, but after the town fire in 1702, the area was laid out as a 47 meter wide common which stretched from Lille Lungegårdsvann out to Fredriksberg fortress.

Both of the most important places of justice in Bergen - Kristiansholm and Nordnes - were clearly visible on the approach to the city, so that visitors could see that crime did not pay here. The sagas tell of Nordnes' reputation as a place of justice all the way back to the 12th century. Sigurd Slembe registered in 1136 with King Harald Gille in Bergen and wanted his confirmation that they were both sons of Magnus Barfot. Instead, Harald Gille accused his possible half-brother of having participated in the murder of Harald's good friend Torkjell Fostre Sumarlidason in the Orkney Islands. A death case was brought against Sigurd for this, and on the advice of the landmen, one evening some men lured Sigurd into a boat and rowed away from the city with him, "south to Nordnes". He was worried that this might be a betrayal, and managed to jump overboard and save his life

Sigurd Jorsalfare's daughter, Kristin Sigurdsdatter, had a son called Harald with her cousin Sigurd Munn. Kristin's husband, Erling Skakke, worried that his stepson Harald would compete for kingship with his own son with Kristin, Magnus Erlingsson, who had been hailed as king as young as five. Erling Skakke therefore had his stepson taken over to Nordnes, where he was beheaded in the early 1170s.

In 1301, "the false Margareta" was burned here. She claimed that she was Margareta Eiriksdatter ,born in 1283, the king's daughter who died on the Orkney Islands in 1290 during the crossing for her wedding with the English heir to the throne. The dead person was returned to Bergen and buried next to her mother in Store Kirstkirke in Bergen. But in In 1300 a woman appeared on a ship from Lübeck claiming to be Princess Margareta, and in reality had been sold by her foster mother Ingeborg Erlingsdatter in the Orkney Islands and sent to Germany, where she grew up. Now she had come with her husband for to claim her right as a king's daughter, even though Eirik Magnusson, her father, had himself opened his daughter's coffin when it came from the Orkney Islands, and had identified the daughter. He had died the year before, but in any case neither the bishop nor the authorities trusted the story, when the woman from Lübeck had graying hair and herself thought she was about forty years old, while the real Margareta would have been seventeen. The impostor's husband was beheaded and she herself was burned, but most people and the laughing at the clergy seem to have believed her, and made the pilgrimage to her place of judgment. In 1320, Bishop Audfinn forbade the worship of her, but to no avail, because more than sixty years after her death, a church was built at Nordnes in her name. We know of testamentary gifts to Margaret Church as late as 1515.

Bryggen i Bergen, also known as Tyskebryggen and Hansabryggen, 

comprises the old wooden buildings and fire-proof stone cellars in the historic city center of Bergen. The wharf was built around 1070, and from 1360 to 1754 was the seat of the German office

 in the city and the central hub for the Hanseatic trade in Norway. 

The Hansa company was also the Nordics' first trading company. 

The pier consists of approx. 13 acres with 61 listed buildings,

 and is on UNESCO's list of world cultural heritage. 

Bryggen is the third most visited tourist attraction in Norway
