Nice day for a walk.

Home thougts from north

Hopp og sprett over små broer !

(Sett Klodenes Kamp The war of the worlds av GeorgeOrwell).

  2. Nice really scandinavian sweater and of course the beautiful nature. So I am very sad to read in the paper that Norway with Switzerland is the most expensive country to go on holiday or just to live there in europe.

  3. Looks like a gorgeous walk, Anita, and I have no difficulty understanding that the sudden arrival of the sun was such a welcome event, that simply demanded that you get out for a walk. I would have felt the same way and would have done the same thing, i hope that the sun will stick around now and that you will be sharing more excursions with us.

  4. It is not unusual to go for a number of days here without sight of the sun. To me, it is a mystery how people can adjust to life above the Arctic Circle and endure "sunless" months. To some degree, I need the sun both for physical and mental survival.

Your photographs are marvelous and I greatly enjoy "accompanying you" on your treks in and around Bergen.

You mention Svalbard (Spitsbergen / Longyearbyen), Anita. Under the category of "it is a small world," the founder of mining operations there was John Munro Longyear, originally from Michigan. When my canoe and I arrived in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, one of the first things I was told was the story of how a Longyear boy had drown in a canoeing accident on Lake Superior and I was advised not to go out on the lake in one. Of course, I ignored the warning and the advice and had some of the best times in my life. Longyear originally made a fortune from mining and lumber businesses in the Upper Peninsula, lived in a mansion in Marquette, was a philanthropist of "epic" proportions and one of the founders of the Huron Mountain Club -- a lair for the rich elite of Michigan.

Be happy and healthy and safe, Ms. Norway .... kos deg så mye tid i solen du klarer ....
